Mrs. Bonsall's School Library Media Center information

Check our Library Policies

We do not charge for overdue books. Students are given overdue notices as reminders to please return books as soon as possible so that others may enjoy them. Northfield Community School Media Center hopes to instill a sense of responsibility in all of our students. The child's care of a book in his/her possession is a part of that process. We encourage our children to treat books as good friends and return them on time. Please email Mrs. Bonsall if you have any questions or concerns.

It is our belief that students should be free to select books that interest them. Students are encouraged, however, to select at least one book they can read independently. One way to choose an independent reading book is to use the "Five Finger Test."

Five Finger Test

Open the book in the middle. Select a full page of text.

1. Read the page (aloud if possible)
2. Put one finger up for every word you cannot pronounce or that you do not know what it means.
3. If you get four or five fingers up on one page, the book is too difficult to read independently.

If you ever check out a book and realize it is difficult for you to understand, please ask your teacher for a
pass to the library so we can help you pick a book that you will enjoy.
